After Graduation
One of my students suggested that I write about how I got started in this career. I decided in middle or high school to be a teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing because my younger brother is hard of hearing. After I graduated, I went to college at Augustana in Sioux Falls, SD and double majored in Deaf Education and Elementary Education. When I finished, I worked in Nebraska and during the summer I started my Masters degree in Deaf Education at Idaho State Univeristy. While getting my Masters, I moved and started teaching in Minnesota. My Masters degree took 3 summers to complete. Have you decided what you might like to do after you graduate?

ReplyDeleteGrowing up I wanted to be a nurse, but realized during college that science subjects were very difficult for me. A counselor suggested I try to go into Deaf Education because I had a hearing loss too. So, I am glad I did, I love my job and all my wonderful students who make me proud everyday!
ReplyDeleteWhen I am older I always wanted to help animals, but after I thought about it more is that there were problems because I don't like snakes and my grandma told me that it will take want to do a long time to figure out what you want to do when you are older.
